THE THER RDER
A YouTube history channel. We tell the wars of history through the decisions that went wrong, and show the strategy behind each one, on the map.
01 Purpose
History as a school of strategic thinking.
We tell wars through the decisions that went wrong. Not to glorify them, but to understand how people think and decide when everything is at stake: how plans are made, how small mistakes add up, and why capable people still make fatal choices.
Each episode puts the viewer at the table on the day of the decision, with only what was known then, and asks the oldest questions in strategy: what was really possible, what was the other order, and what would you have done?
Strategic thinking
See the whole board: terrain, time, supply, and the mind of the other side.
Judgment under uncertainty
Decide with only what was known that day, not with hindsight.
Cause and consequence
Follow how one order, given or not given, shapes everything that comes after.
The battles are over. The lessons about how we decide are not.
02 Built with Claude
Claude makes telling history on the map easy.
Every map in our episodes is made in the Map Studio, a tool we built with Claude Code. Claude is also part of every step before it, from the first source to the script.
-
STEP 1
Research and verification
Claude gathers sources for each episode and checks the claims in the story against them before anything is written.
-
STEP 2
Script
Claude writes the narration script: the chain of decisions, told step by step, in a calm documentary voice.
-
STEP 3
Map animation
Our own map animation editor, coded with Claude Code, turns each scene into an animated battle map, ready for the episode.
The Other Order is the first channel from our studio. Each channel we launch gets its own production set, built with Claude.
03 Map Studio
Our map studio, opening to teachers.
The Map Studio is how we make every battle map: place units, draw the real route and the other order, move the camera and export the scene as video. As a social project, we will open it on this site for teachers, students and anyone who wants to explain history on a map.
For teachers
Build a battle on the map in minutes and show it in class, step by step, with the real route and the other order side by side.
For students and history fans
Explain an operation the way you understand it, on the same map our episodes use, and export it as a video.
- 4K, 60 fps MP4 export, rendered frame by frame in the browser.
- Group routes for whole formations, with several movement patterns.
- Weapons and naval combat: salvos, torpedoes, depth charges, damage and sinking.
- Terrain from real coastline and elevation data.
- Light and depth: time of day, clouds, smoke shadows, explosion light.
- The other order drawn on the same map as history, in red.
The full studio is not open on the site yet. This is a preview of the tool we use for our videos.
04 Operation Library
Every operation, kept in one library.
The site is built to grow into a library. Over time, every operation we cover will be added here with its map, its timeline, the decisions that shaped it, the other order and the sources, so it can be watched, studied and used again in class.
